from Unexplained Sounds Group - 2nd Annual Report, released December 8, 2016
Berlau is a sound project by the guitarist Fernando Ramalho, based in Lisbon, Portugal. It moves through several experimental music and sound fields, from the exploration of drone to field recordings or to free improvisation, aiming to build a language of its own in the approach to the electric guitar. Since 2014, Berlau has recorded several albums and EP, among which are 'Repetence' (2015), a piece for electric guitar and Google Translate, and 'Berlau II' (2016), an album built from a collection of field recordings captured in Lisbon. Berlau has a permanent collaboration with the saxophonist António Manuel Ramos, in the project Berlau & AM Ramos (zigurartists.bandcamp.com/album/red-railbus-sessions), and with the choreographer Valentina Parravicini and the video artist Filipe Lopes, in the project Rui(n)do (playbleuruindo.blogspot.pt). Berlau has been collaborating on a number of projects, such as, for instance, Cities and Memory (citiesandmemory.com).
