Rui Bentes was born in Portimão in 1973.
As a teenager he played in bands like Orh+ and Kradiolina Nicotine.
Participated in several improvised music meetings with Nuno Rebelo, among others.
Collaborated regularly with the cultural associations A Gaveta and Contramaré.

Professionally he was involved in architecture for 9 years.
Since 2002, Rui Bentes lives in Lisbon where he completed the Advanced Course in Sound, in the ETIC school.

In 2003 the musical project shhh... was born, and until now has released four albums and several participations in compilations and split's, having more than two dozen phonographic editions.

With releases on CD, DVD, vinyl, tape, floppy disk and on-line download and streamning, on labels such as This.co, Enoughrecords, Cold Model Records, Floppy Kick Records, Signal Void and Cobra Records, in such countries as Portugal, Canada, Spain, Hungary and Japan, having collaborated with artists as Sci-fi Industries, Dave Philips, Thisquietarmy, Rasal.Asad, Anla Courtis, Philippe Petit, Martin A. Smith, Zenial, Bolt, Fragment., Cris x, Francisco Lopez, Kenji Siratori and Carlos Zingaro. Rui bentes also has a side project "The Sleeper Has Awakened" with Helder Luis and as a complement to the music, he also creates most of the shhh... videos.

In addition to the music created as shhh... he also produces, under his own name, compositions for theater, exhibitions, dance and audiovisual instalations for names such as Teatro O Bando, Útero, A Gaveta, Adriana Queiroz, Salgadeiras Gallery, The Brooks Museum of Art, Fábrica da Pólvora etc., having done more than four dozen sound works for theater, dance, performance, exhibitions and installations.

With Overlook Filmes, he produced three short films, doing location sound recording, mixing, sound design and original music. Also created the sound for the animated film "Alda", and worked as second sound director in the movie "Eclipse in Portugal", having participated in about six films, ranging from feature to short films and animations. Recently he made the sound composition for a multimedia movie to the Lisbon Planetarium.

Simultaneously, Rui Bentes works as a sound technician for television, in entertainment and documentary, having made dozens of TV shows and several documentaries in recent years, such as Idolos, X Factor, Got Talent, Desafio Total, Guerra de Pratos, Rising Star, Splash, Top Chef, Com Amor se Paga, Peso Pesado, A Voz de Portugal, Doutor Preciso de Ajuda, Diagnostico Divas and Al Kass Cup, for channels such as RTP1, RTP 2, SIC, TVI, Fox, Arte, Al Kass, among others.
