Prairie is the solo project of Marc Jacobs. Based in Brussels, he composes original soundtracks for experimental films, improvises alone or with other musicians and records his own music on vinyl.
His first EP, "I’m So In Love I Almost Forgot I Survived A Disaster" released last year, sounded "post-everything: post punk, post rock, post drones, post ambient, post noise fused into a haunting soundtrack filled with guitars, electronic rhythms and effects, film music and conversation snippets" (Gonzo Circus magazine).
The full LP "Like a Pack of Hounds" — words taken from Cormac McCarthy's novel Blood Meridian — is the logical follow-up, blending layers of lo-fi hiss entangled into hidden melodies, loud guitar outbursts with voices appearing like lost ghosts out of a southern gothic western. A restless ride into imaginary burned landscapes where romantic nightmares meet white magic to deliver tense
and distorted soundscapes made of noise, field recordings and electro acoustic abstractions. "Like a Pack of Hounds" was released in February 2015 on the Berlin based label Shitkatapult and received a great welcome from the international press.
On stage the band is composed by Jacobs on guitar, Grégoire Fray (Thot, The Hills Mover) on guitar and electronics, Catherine Graindorge (Nox, Detroit, Hugo Race, Andrea Schröder) on violin and effects and Frédéric Alstadt onanalog synths. The band is accompanied by live super 8mm / 16 mm film manipulations by filmmaker Khristine Gillard.The band has recently played the support of Apparat for his Soundtracks tour in various prestigious venues around Europe (Barbican, Admiralspalast in Berlin, Teatro Bellini in Naples, Auditorium della Musica in Rome, ...). Other dates this
year include Artefact Festival (Leuven), Netwerk (Aalst), Les Nuits Botanique (Brussels).
