Nicolás Varchausky (AR, 1973) is a composer, sound artist, and researcher. He works as a professor in the Electroacoustic Music Composition Degree at Universidad Nacional de Quilmes (UNQ) and in the Electronic Arts Degree at Universidad Nacional Tres de Febrero (UNTref). His work explores the relations between sound, space, memory and spoken word within technological environments and includes electronic and instrumental music, sound art pieces, performance, interactive installations and site-specific projects in public spaces. He has collaborated with several artists, musicians and directors, and composed music for theatre, dance and film. He runs the experimental music netlabel Inkilino Records and the Sound Art book series at UNQ. For 30 years now, he’s been developing the on going project Archivo PAIS, a collection of anonymous voices exploring the tensions between sound and meaning in spoken word as a musical material. His work has been supported and distinguished by Prix Ars Electronica, Bienal de Performance BP15, Argentine Art Critic Association, Goethe Institut, Festival Internacional de Buenos Aires, Eurokaz Festival, Gyeonggi Creative Center and Fundación Antorchas, among others.
He holds a PhD from The Centre for the Digital Arts and Experimental Media (DXARTS), University of Washington, Seattle, USA.
